CAMP FREDDY: More Live Dates Announced
September 17, 2006CAMP FREDDY — the Los Angeles-based "jam" group featuring guitarists Dave Navarro (ex-JANE'S ADDICTION, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) and Billy Morrison (ex-THE CULT bassist, current CIRCUS DIABLO vocalist) alongside VELVET REVOLVER members Matt Sorum (drums) and Scott Weiland (vocals) — will perform next month at an all-star tribute to San Francisco's rockin' past, present and future. The band will play updated versions of classic songs by Bay Area artists. The event happens Oct. 6 at the Warfield and benefits music education and disaster relief. They will also play in Costa Mesa on October 20. The band will be playing a special one-hour show at the opening of the new Performing Arts Center in Orange County. This is an invite-only event.
As previously reported, CAMP FREDDY will perform its cover of the CHEAP TRICK classic "Surrender" on NBC-TV's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Thursday, October 5 at 11:35 p.m. EST. This will be the band's first television appearance since "The Showbiz Show with David Spade" on Comedy Central in late June.
CAMP FREDDY's cover of "Surrender" has been selected as the lead single from the upcoming movie soundtrack "Employee of the Month". The song features the core CAMP FREDDY lineup of Dave Navarro, Billy Morrison, Matt Sorum and Scott Weiland, Donovan Leitch (vocals) and Chris Chaney (bass),and was recorded at Sorum's Drac Studios in Los Angeles. "Surrender" is available for download exclusively from the iTunes Music Store until September 18. "After that, the soundtrack album will be released on September 19, which contains both 'Surrender' and [CAMP FREDDY's version of MARC BOLAN's] '20th Century Boy'," Morrison previously wrote on his web site. "This will be released in both digital and hard copy form and will be available in all stores."
CAMP FREDDY has been in and out of the recording studio over the past couple of years recording what is expected to eventually be released as the band's debut album. Among the cuts that are set to appear on the effort are "20th Century Boy" (also featuring Steve Jones from THE SEX PISTOLS on lead guitar) and THIN LIZZY's "Jailbreak" (featuring ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell on vocals and Billy Duffy [ex-THE CULT] on lead guitar). Other guest musicians include RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith and singer Macy Gray.
